Composite bonding – enhance your smile non-invasively.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is a highly effective cosmetic dental treatment designed to improve the appearance of your teeth with minimal intervention. This procedure is ideal for repairing minor chips, filling gaps, masking discoloured teeth, and correcting congenital defects or irregular shapes. Using a tooth-coloured composite resin, your dentist can restore the natural appearance of your teeth while matching the colour perfectly to your existing smile.

Unlike porcelain crowns or veneers, composite bonding is a non-invasive alternative that requires little to no removal of tooth structure, making it a quick, less expensive, and reversible option for enhancing your smile.

Many patients also choose composite bonding as a cosmetic solution before or instead of teeth-straightening treatments, offering an immediate boost in confidence with a natural-looking result.

Treatment

How is composite bonding carried out?

Your dentist will start your treatment by taking records of your current teeth with an intra-oral scan. This scan will then go to the dental laboratory for a ‘mock-up’. This is where a model of your current teeth will be created with the composite bonding in wax, so you can see the proposed results of the treatment beforehand. Your dentist will then discuss the proposed wax model with you in person and discuss if you would like any changes made. This model is used to make a ‘stent’. Your dentist will start by choosing a composite resin colour that matches your tooth for a natural-looking result. Many patients prefer to have their teeth whitened before the composite bonding, so a lighter shade of resin can be matched. Your dentist will then use the ‘stent’ to add white filling material to your teeth and recreate the result from your tooth model. The composite resin is hardened with a UV light before being shaped again and polished.

Composite bonding is a great alternative to veneers or crowns. Veneers and crowns will require the removal of some of your existing tooth structure. Composite bonding is a white filling material placed over your existing teeth, so no drilling is required.

Composite bonding is a quick, less expensive and non-invasive procedure, and it can be easily repaired if damaged or broken with more white filling material.
